HUMANIST, Virtual Center for Excellence, is a consortium of research institutes that explores the topic of human behaviour in road safety in relation to vehicle automation, intelligent transport systems, and human machine interaction. This group organises a conference every two years; this year’s event was the 6th edition in the Hague (Netherlands) from June 13 to 14.
On 13 June, Dr. Veerle Ross from the University of Hasselt (Belgium) presented on predictors of distracted driving in a session about the issues of acceptance and trust of automated vehicles – an important topic considering recent crashes involving pedestrians and distracted drivers in self-driving cars. The study was conducted in close collaboration with Vias institute using ESRA data.
